Welcome to the mainly French-speaking reference on the prefectures of Tottori and Hiroshima, in Japan. This site is managed by Marie, who has been living in Japan since 2016 and whom you may know from her Instagram account (@marie_in_misasa).
What kind of information can be found here ?
You will find all sort of information and useful links (mainly in French) about two lesser-known regions of Japan, Tottori and Hiroshima, to prepare for your trip off the beaten path. However, we will try our best to translate our contents in English for all our English-speaking readers !
Here, you will mainly find stories and information about those two more or less touristy regions. A good use of Japanese or the presence of a guide on site is sometimes recommended to fully enjoy the experiences presented.
What does "It's Maigo" mean?
Maigo in Japanese means “a child who has lost his way.” It so happens that my sense of direction is not perfect. However, it is thanks to my wanderings that I have discovered unique places, not referenced anywhere, and met exceptional and warm people.
This site therefore brings together my discoveries as I get lost (not necessarily on purpose) in the Japanese countryside.
Who am I?
My name is Marie. I have been living in Japan since 2016, first in the prefecture of Tottori and then in Hiroshima since 2022.
I participated in the JET programme between 2016 and 2022 and had the opportunity to work for the Town of Misasa, a hot spring resort in Tottori prefecture, as the Coordinator of International Relations.
Some of you may know me on Instagram under the pseudonym @marie_in_misasa. Here are some photos you can discover on my account.
My background in a few words
Thanks to my studies for my master’s degree, I am multilingual. I speak Japanese and English (and I try not to forget French!), which has allowed me to exchange with a large number of people.
Officially, I am recognized as:
- Tourism Ambassador of Misasa Onsen (三朝温泉観光大使)
- Tourism Ambassador of Tottori Prefecture “Tottori Merci Princess (とっとりメルシープリンセス)
- HIT Tourism Ambassador of Hiroshima Prefecture (広島県観光大使)
